Bullick
Robert W. Bullick was born at his home in the Wissahickon section of Philadelphia in 1930. He graduated from Roxborough High School and earned an appointment to he United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY. After graduating, he sailed the world extensively and collected artifacts from places like India and Madagascar. He continued his service in the United States Naval Reserve and retired with the rank of Captain.
However, his true calling was not on the high seas, but in the classroom. He found his passion for teaching at St. Thomas More H.S. and after it closed at Bishop Kenrick H.S., educating, by his estimate, more than 5,600 students. He was recently awarded the prestigious Fr. McDermott teaching award by the ever-vibrant St. Thomas More Alumni Association. He could also be found teaching woodworking and ceramics at Kendrick Recreation Center in Roxborough.
Bob met his wife of 64 years, Joan, who grew up in neighboring Manayunk, at the Polish Falcons when they were introduced by mutual friends. Together, they raised their four children in Andorra, not far from where they both grew up. He could often be found with a good cigar and a cheap scotch while reading the Business section of the newspaper. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, umpiring their whiffle ball games or trying wrestling moves from the 1950s on them. He never stopped teaching and later in life would lead stimulating conversations on lightweight topics such as light refraction, thermodynamics, the tick, or the rarest forms of elements on the periodic table. He was a wealth of knowledge and willing to share it with anyone.
Died on July 4th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Bob is survived by his loving children Lisa Fallon, Karen (Anthony) Trainer, Robert J., and Christopher (Suzanne) Bullick. His 9 dear grandchildren, and 6 Great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to his viewing Saturday 9:30 AM and to participate in his funeral mass 10:30 AM at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 815 Cathedral Road, Phila. Int Westminster Cemetery.
