Waldenberger
Joseph A. Waldenberger, passed away on July 16, 2025, less than a month from his 88th birthday. Beloved husband of Lucy (nee LaPera), loving father of Kathleen (Brian) Barrett, and James (Patrice) Waldenberger. Proud grandfather of Alex Locklear and Dan Waldenberger. He is also survived by 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews.
Joe attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and High School in Manayunk. He enlisted in the United States Army, stationed in San Antonio, Texas, honorably discharged. Professionally, he worked in food sales and distribution for several companies, most famously "the sugar company". Joe valued dearly the friendships made over the years, enthusiastically staying in contact with those from his time in school, the service, and work.
Setting up bowling pins at the old Hi-Spot in Manayunk as a young boy, Joe became an avid bowler, having played in local leagues for several years, even once scoring a perfect "300". He enjoyed spending Sundays in the summer on the golf course with family and friends. And when the weather was perfect, you would often find Joe with his fishing rod on the banks of the Wissahickon Creek and Schuykill River.
Above all personal and professional accomplishments, Joe was most proud of his family. He and Lucy were married for 63 years, and as Joe would add, friends for 68 years. He was devoted to his family, and always had time to lend and ear, offering words of guidance and support to those for whom he cared. Joe had a quick wit and great sense of humor, living his life with honor and integrity, staying true to himself every step of the way....he will be greatly missed.
Donations in Joe's honor can be made to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105, or Holy Family Church, 234 Hermitage St., Phila., Pa. 19127.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date, inurnment private.
