Remembering Kathleen "Kate" Lewyckyj

Nov. 1st 1967 - April 12th, 2021

Lower Moreland - Kathleen "Kate" Lewyckyj (nee. Lotka) passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones in her home on April 12th, 2021. She was 53 years old.  Kate was the beloved wife of Ostap "Oz" Lewyckyj. The couple fatefully met one day on a SEPTA train, when Kate was dared by her sister to ask Oz, who was on his way to jury duty, what his astrological sign was. After the trial was over, he waited at her stop so they could exchange numbers. They shared 31 wonderful loving years of marriage.  Born in Churchville, PA, Kate was the daughter of Ralph (Linda) Lotka and the late Joan Dugery (nee. Kowalski). Ostap and Kate are parishioners at St. Michael the Archangel Ukrainian Catholic Church in Jenkintown, where they were married on July 14th, 1990.

Kate is survived by her husband Oz, her daughter Christina Lewyckyj-Potts, son Nicholas Lewyckyj (fiancé Breanna Thorsen), faithful dog Nemo and two loving cats, Nessie and Iago. Kate is also survived by her 5 sisters, Laraine Schumacher, Christine (Jay) Koons, Carolyn Anskis, Heather Lotka-Pelaez (Mike), Christine "Palley" Swan (Doug), mother-in-law Tatiana Lewyckyj, brother-in-law Taras Lewyckyj (Susan), and sisters-in-law Olenka Krupa-Griffies (Scott) and Marta Cairns (Dave). She also had 21 nieces and nephews, along with 9 grandnieces and nephews.

Kate graduated from Council Rock North High School in 1985 and was a long- time employee of the Drexel University Medical College at Hahnemann University Hospital. Aside from her many years at Hahnemann, she was an avid reader, as well as a fan of the band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and movies starring the actor, Jack Palance. She enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends, and always ensured everyone was welcome at her Lower Moreland home, which was always stocked with an abundance of food for any potential visitors. Due to her overwhelming friendliness and hospitality, she quickly became an "adopted" mother to many of her children's friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Drexel University College Medicine in Kate’s memory at Drexelmed.edu/InMemory.
