Obituary of Joseph James McMahon
Joseph J. McMahon was welcomed into heaven on June 30, 2021 at the age of 77. Joe was the loving husband of 52 years of Marie (Arnold), the dedicated father of Joseph (Mary Beth), Timothy (Joanne), Kevin (Meredith), Meagan Powers (Scott) and Kara Weaver (Leland), and the proud Pop Pop of Elizabeth, Maeve, Lauren, Joey, Brendan, Will, Kate, Jack, Anna, Peter, Lucy, Charlie, Michael and James. Born on March 29, 1944 to the late James and Catherine (Rafter) McMahon, Joe was raised in the Roxborough/Manayunk section of Philadelphia in a large, loving family with four sisters and two brothers. He attended St. John the Baptist grade school, Roman Catholic High School (class of 1962) and Saint Joseph's University (class of 1971). He spent the majority of his career and won many awards as a sales executive at Mrs. Paul's and Campbell Soup Company. He was a natural salesman and used his skills outside the office, too, always interested in learning people's stories and making connections. Joe was a longtime parishioner at Saint Rose of Lima in North Wales, where he and Marie lived for 43 years and raised their family. Known for sporting sharp suits and having the cleanest car in town, Joe enjoyed listening to oldies music, watching the local news, following high school and Big 5 basketball and, most of all, spending time with his family in Sea Isle City. Besides his wife and children and their families, Joe is survived by his sister Frances Friel and many nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss "Uncle Joe" dearly. Joe was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Jane Price, Catherine Zakrzewski, Geraldine Shields, and brothers James and Michael McMahon. Family and friends are invited to Joe's funeral mass on Tuesday, July 6th at Saint Rose of Lima Church, 428 S. Main Street, North Wales, PA. The visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by mass at 12 noon, with interment immediately following at Westminster Cemetery, 701 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's name may be made to the Henry W. Zakrzewski Scholarship Fund, Roman Catholic High School, 301 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, 620 West Germantown Pike #250, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
