Snyder

Elizabeth Anne Snyder (nee LaRocca) passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, October 9th, following a brief illness.

Known as Lena to her family and childhood friends, she was born in the Manayunk area of Philadelphia on May 30, 1932. She was a member of St. Lucy’s parish, where she spent many hours with her friends providing administrative support to the parish.  During those years she was also a member of the church choir.   Elizabeth graduated from Roxborough High School in 1950 and from the Spring Garden Institute with an Associate’s Degree.  She worked at the Singer Sewing Machine Company in Philadelphia.

When she married in 1960, she moved to the Roxborough section of Philadelphia, where she raised her four children while also supporting the family’s printing business in Manayunk.

Elizabeth was well-known in her family and community circles as a talented chef and baker.  Her meatballs and gravy, chocolate chip cookies and pizzelles were legendary.

She moved to Attleboro Village in Langhorne, PA in 2005 where she never missed a Bingo game, a movie night or Happy Hour and developed many loving friendships.  She never missed a chance to talk about her children or grandchildren, who were the loves of her life.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents Guiseppe and Maria LaRocca, her brother Peter and sisters Rose Magro and Amelia Luchessi, and her husband, Charles.  She is survived by her children and their spouses Charles Snyder (Janet),  Elizabeth Shields (James),  Maryann Snyder and Rosemary Taylor (Charlie), as well as her four adoring grandchildren, Leah and Julia Snyder and Dean and Isabella Carvalho.  She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128.  Calling hours will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to Mass.  Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery immediately following Mass.
