Dear Colleen,
I bumped into you on Third Avenue on Friday. I had been living away from Bay Ridge for some years and had only returned during the height of the pandemic. As such, I had not been out very much.
It was after I saw you on Third Avenue that a friend had told me of Michael’s passing.
I do remember him and all of your children. You and your children, often traipsing about Bay Ridge happily. Always smiling and laughing.
Such a lovely family.
I am so sorry.
Please accept my condolences.

“If we were vampires and death was a joke,
I’d go out on your sidewalk and smoke.
We’d laugh at everyone and their plans…
But maybe time running out is a gift,
And I’ll work hard ‘till the end of my shift.
To give you every second I can find,
And hope it isn’t me who’s left behind…”
Thank you for your time, your laughter, and your companionship. You’re a once-in-a-lifetime friend and I’m so lucky to have had the chance to know you. I miss you so much. Love you always, Mike.

My deepest condolences to Mike’s family and friends. I was privileged to work with Mike when he first came to West Point. I’m so grateful to have gotten to work with him and know him a little. He was always there with a smile and a joke and willing to always help with whatever needed done. The world has lost an amazing human.

I was one of Michael's Danville friends. Our first conversation did seem like a positive start. We started with small talk until he asked what school I had gone to. When I replied with Rowan University, he said, "Oh, I haven't liked anyone I knew that went there." Then he walked away and we didn't speak again for several days. It was not until later than I got to fully appreciate his sarcastic sense of humor. He became one of my closest friends in Danville and my main hiking partner. We would talk about book, obscure bands, work, and anything else that would come up.

At age 8, Mike entered my life. We were in 3rd grade, and I remember thinking "Hey, he's got freckles just like me". We quickly became friends, and I have had the privilege and joy of calling him my best friend for the past 2 decades. Whether it was all nighters spent playing video games at his place, or getting drunk and hanging out at mine, it was a blast if Mike was around.
He always had a smile on his face, and was always there for you if you needed him. He was the strongest and most selfless person I knew, and I wish I told him more often just how much he meant to me.
You're the best human I've ever known, and I'll miss you so damn much. I love you Mike, and I hope someday we can meet again. Rest in peace buddy.

The first thing that caught me about Mike were his bright, bright, blue eyes beneath huge glasses. The second thing I noticed about him was how easily and how often he laughed. He’d follow everything up with a joke. It was surprising at first because he presented so stoically, but he’d say something funny, throw his head back, and laugh towards the sky. Always. In the first year of our friendship, I remember wondering to myself, “who the hell wears basketball shorts in Brooklyn in February?” but there he was with a fuzzy Mets hat and a large Dunkin' Donuts ice coffee with a splash of cream and a little bit of 2%.
Mike was a best friend to many people, and I’m no different. He was my best friend since we met at NYU. There are so many memories in the thousands and thousands of hours we spent together and sprinkled within all of them are these pivotal moments Mike was consistently there for me. Once we went to Maia’s house party in Williamsburg and I had too much to drink. Mike fed me bread and held my hair back in the bathroom until 5 am. The sun started to rise and that’s when I was well enough to call a taxi home. Another time it was 3 am, I was in the middle of a bad breakup and out of all my friends- I called Mike. He answered. I gave him all my sad tears and my big feelings, and while that was a lot for anyone to handle, the worst thing Mike ever called me was sentimental. The next day he gave me a card with an incredibly touching, handwritten, heartfelt note inside that read, “Fuck that dude” in all caps.
I wasn’t the only one he cared about. Throughout college he worked nights at the newspaper factory to help support his mother and sisters. Every year on Valentine’s Day he’d get them a bouquet of flowers. I remember we chatted about a coworker of his who was trying to figure out how to send flowers to his upset wife. Mike said with genuine confusion, “Why would you get flowers for your significant other only when they’re mad at you? If you love someone, you should get them flowers all the time.”
Mike was a levelheaded, easygoing, and decisive person. He loved reading science fiction, listening to music and watching movies- especially horror movies. I remember he somehow convinced me to see Blair Witch with him and he kept tapping my arm throughout the movie to look up so I wouldn’t “miss the best parts”. I didn’t sleep for a week. Mike- I’m reminded of you every single hour. In multivariable calculus, we learned that between any two numbers like 1 and 2 there is an immeasurable number of values (1.01, 1.011, 1.012… to infinity). In other words, it has been proven that infinity can exist inside of finite intervals, and so inside of our finite friendship and your tragically finite time with us, I know there is an infinite number of moments and memories we’ve been so lucky to create with you. I love you. I miss you and I will always miss you. There will literally never be a day I don’t think about you because I have had the privileged of being your friend- thank you so, so much for also being mine.

This is my little brother Michael. Funny story about his college graduation. He didn't want his family to come so he told us he wasn't going. Mom found out a few weeks later that he did go to his college graduation when she saw the photos online and she was SOOO mad. That was the kind of guy Mike was. He didn't want to bother people. He bought Ikea furniture when he started his job at Merck but didn't put it together because if you have EVER put IKEA furniture together, you need two people and he didn't want to bother his friends. When I moved to NC for a job he bought the
IKEA furniture to my place and we set it up together. "If I knew it was that easy I would have set it up myself." He was the funniest, most sacastic person you ever met. If you needed some money or help with something Mike was more than happy to lend a hand with whatever you needed. When I was a broke law student and I needed a plane ticket (with my pet fare) Mike was the one who paid for it. When we were trying to get a PS5 he hopped on the vitual line and even paid half. He loved his baby girl Dolly (he feeds her Blue Buffalo and you KNOW how expesnive that is). You know that Mr. Rodgers quote "Look for the helpers..." well Mike was one of the helpers. I really hope he inspried you all to be a helper as well. Did you know he was brony? Cause I sure as heck didn't.
I am going to miss you so much.
-Your big sister Katie

Mike was like a brother to me. He was always there for me if I ever had a problem. We loved so many of the same things and anytime our favorite bands would come around we would go see them. We both loved sports as well as the Mets, we would talk about sports for hours. We talked pretty much every day for years even when he moved to Philly. It really feels like I lost an important part of me and I still can't believe it. I miss you so much Mike, I love you.

I am struggling to think of just one story to share - Michael and I had many fun adventures together from the time he ate wings that were way to spicy and the only thing I had to offer was expired milk to when we made way too many Christmas cookies for two people to manage in an afternoon or you making us play guess the bill and roasting me when I was way off or meeting Dolly together. I am going to miss you so much. You were an amazing friend and always there when needed. I am very thankful to have been a part of your life.

Ive known mike since we were kids in middle school. He was always quick to laugh, quick to tell a joke and quick to help someone. He loved giving gifts, loved music, really loved the Mets and even still, loved his family and friends more.
Mike was hardworking, considerate, selfless and witty. He was boisterous, jolly, introspective and kind. Most of all though, Mike was my best friend. And I miss him so much.
Rest in Peace Michael,
I hope to laugh with you again in a place better than this one.

Some of my fondest childhood memories included Michael in them. I feel very blessed to have experienced growth and share so much laughter with him since 4th grade, junior high school, high school, and whenever he was able to visit his hometown in our short adult lives.
It was always constant fun and joy every time we got together whether it was meeting up after school, countless of hours on our Xbox 360, kicking it at our local Subway or Pete's Pizzeria, dreading our NY sports teams, talking about our favorite music and TV shows, and so much more.
Michael was an absolutely amazing friend who always had your back while keeping it real with you. I am so hurt I won't be able to hear his contagious laughs and witty remarks but he will live on in all our hearts and memories. I miss you so much Michael and I am so happy to have randomly ran into you and hung out on our last summer in Bay Ridge together. I love you, brother!

Mike was my funny, considerate, compassionate nephew. He brightened up every room he walked into with his charming smile and witty comments. Mike was also a wonderful cook, he loved spending time in nature, and going to concerts. I am proud of the wonderful young man he became & his accomplishments, such as becoming a chemical engineer. Not only was he my nephew, but he was my former coworker at the New York Times, loving cousin, and partner in crime in home improvement projects. I will miss visiting him in Brooklyn and getting the latest scoop on what was going on in his life, while eating his cooking. He was always looking out for his mom, his sisters, and dogs Dolly and Pebbles. He is gone too soon and we will miss him dearly.
With love, Uncle Mike Brody & family

The first thing I notice about Michael is that he lit up a room every time you would see him . He accomplished so much in his 28 years . He followed his dream of becoming a chemical engineer .
He enjoyed hiking , going to concerts , watching movies , meeting up with friends , spending time with his mother, sisters, and the dogs Pebbles and Dolly . Michael was a METS aficionado .
Michael had a generous and thoughtful heart . May your laughter, love, kindness, strength, and sense of humor live on forever .
