Obituary of Joseph Patrick McMahon
McMahon
Joseph Patrick McMahon III, lovingly known as "Joey" and affectionately called "Muszhie" by his grandchildren, passed away peacefully at his home in New Jersey on January 2, 2025, surrounded by family and loved ones after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 25, 1951, in the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, Joey was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Mazzeo) McMahon.
Joey is survived by his daughter Melissa Lindholm and her husband Mike; his treasured grandchildren Jordan (Kenton), Hailey (Cody), and Carly; his beloved great-grandchildren Ava, Kayden, Ellie, Jax, and Amelia; and his sister Mary "Mimi" Pack who he humorously referred to as “mom”. He also leaves behind countless friends and extended family who cherished him deeply.
A proud graduate of Roxborough High School, Joey excelled in sports and carried that drive into a successful entrepreneurial career. He began by owning and operating several stores along the Jersey Shore boardwalk before following his family's passion for jewelry. As a certified gemologist, Joey ran thriving jewelry stores in New Jersey and later in the Cayman Islands, where he was fondly known as "Joe M." Upon returning to the United States, Joey pursued yet another successful venture in marketing in Florida before his diagnosis brought him back to Philadelphia and New Jersey to spend meaningful time with his family.
Joey’s appreciation for luxury was evident throughout his life. He had an affinity for high-end cars, curating an impressive collection that included Porsches, Jaguars, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles. His meticulous attention to detail shone through in both his personal life and professional endeavors
A memorial visitation and service will be held on January 11, 2025, at Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 425 Lyceum Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19128, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jefferson Cancer Research.
Joey’s remarkable stories, humor, and zest for life will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those he touched.
