Hinkle

John "Hinks" Hinkle went home to be with Jesus on January 12th, 2025, at the age of 71, at home in Ft. Meyers, Fl., surrounded by his family, following a struggle with lung disease.

Born to George and Rose (nee Viola) Hinkle on July 30, 1953, in the Roxborough/Manayunk area of Philadelphia, PA. He grew up in a large, close-knit family of 12 children, numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He loved athletics, and growing up in the Philadelphia area, he was a huge Philly sports fan, especially the Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles. He played baseball for various recreational teams and also coached baseball for several years.

Jackie had a natural rhythm and a beautiful voice. He was known to walk the streets of Philadelphia singing his heart out, with a pick in his hair, from one destination to the next. He often harmonized under "the L" with his cousins, who were also vocally talented.

Jackie worked for the City of Philadelphia as a Roofer before retiring and was very proud to have followed in the footsteps of his Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, who also, were long-time Union workers for the City of Philadelphia.

Jackie moved to the beautiful Ft. Meyers, Fl. area later in life, where he found peace and serenity. He loved living in Florida.

Jackie is survived by his son and sports partner John Hinkle (Tina) and Grandson Caden Hinkle. Jackie was a dedicated father to Nicole, David, Nanci and Dusti Jackson, five step-grandchildren. Brother James Hinkle, Sisters Betty Platcheck, Margaret Flora, Linda Johnston, Catherine Pierce, Mary Samarco, and Francine Bridy. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Jackie was preceded in death by his parents, George Hinkle and Rose (Viola) Hinkle; Brothers George, Jr. and Robert Hinkle; and Sisters Jesse Hliwski and Carol Johnson.

Although he had many loves in life, his #1 love was his Mother Rose, whom he deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to his viewing on Friday 9 AM and to participate in his funeral service 11 AM at the Fitzpatrick Funeral Home, 425 Lyceum Ave, Int. Westminster Cemetery.
